8th grade orchestra students from Westview and Longs Peak Middle School rehearse with the Longmont High School Orchestra (brimming with former Wildcats) on Tuesday, October 24th. This dynamic annual collaboration between the three schools gives middle school students the opportunity to get a feel for what Orchestra looks like in high school and for high school students to embrace a mentorship role. The day concluded with a powerful and memorable concert at LHS.
“Saturday 10/21 was the NOCO Middle School State Championship Meet. The XC athletes worked hard for 9 weeks to prepare for this meet. Our boys took 2nd overall in the championship division and 3rd overall in the open division, while our girls took 2nd overall in the open division. Westview had 6 runners in the top 20 of all four races combined!” ~Coach Ferrara
8th grade Band rehearses “I Want Candy” with the Longmont High School Marching Band on a chilly Friday morning in preparation for their appearance at the City of Longmont Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 28th.
Ms. Herrmann treats 6th graders to spooky stories in the library on Thursday morning.

Raelynn Dale and Victoria Fernandez assist Spanish teacher Mr. Chavez with his annual “Dia de los Muertos” display in the front office. Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday on November 1st and 2nd each year where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink, and celebration.
7th graders in Mr. Chavez’s Spanish class paint sugar skulls for Dia de los Muertos next week.
Throughout the month of October, art students participated in Inktober, a worldwide, month-long drawing event where artists use ink tools to illustrate the day’s one-word prompt. Learn more about it at Inktober.com!
6th grade Language Arts teachers Ms. Kocjancic and Ms. Hernandez introduce their students to “Literature Circles” for the first time. Blue and Silver students are mixed together and placed into small groups and are then assigned a book to read together, much like a book club. The goal of this activity is to get kids reading and talking about books, sharing their ideas and insights, and collaborating with students from the other team in their grade.
“The Wildcats traveled to Erie and took on the Tigers on Monday. We battled hard, winning one and losing one. Our players continue to grow and get better every week. We will look to continue our strong season next week when we head to Altona to take on the rival Rattlers on Monday 10/30 at their place. Go Wildcats!”

        ~Coach Martenson
