Westview Middle School Weekly Update

A beautiful rainbow appeared on the morning of April 30th just as our Wildcats arrived for school. A spectacle in our backyard and a pleasant welcome to the day for everyone!

Wildcat News

  • 8th Grade Band and Orchestra Concert: Monday, May 6th, 7:00 – 9:00 pm @ Longmont High School
  • 7th Grade (Blue) Field Trip to Fiske Planetarium: Tues., May 7th, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • 7th Grade (Silver) Field Trip to Fiske Planetarium: Wed., May 8th, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • NJHS Induction Ceremony: Tuesday, May 7th, 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the Westview gym
  • Westview Improvaloosa: Thursday, May 9th, 6:30- 8:00 pm in the Westview Student Center
  • All library books are due on May 9th! Please have your student check the overdue list outside the library.  If they would like to do community service to work off a lost book, there are forms in the library.  Remember that if they want to get your yearbook on time, they need to take care of their library business! 
  • Westview Soccer: Soccer Game Schedule
    • Game Tues. May 7, Westview @ Timberline (A & B Teams) 4:00-6:00 pm
  • Register for 2024-2025 Transportation Services:
              • Westview Summer Music Academy: July 29th -August 9th (excluding Sat. and Sun.) each evening from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm. The cost is $50 (the fee is adjusted for those on free/reduced lunch). This is a great way to get back into playing shape before the school year resumes! Students will rehearse fun music, with a culminating performance open to families on August 9th. This is open to band/orchestra students who will be in 7th or 8th grade next Fall.

              • The Yearbooks are arriving soon!!!
                • Yearbooks are extremely limited and will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Purchase your copy ASAP before it’s gone. Not sure if you have already bought one? E-mail Ms. Ellis at: [email protected] and she can check the sales report.

                Four former Westview students WIN the VEX Robotics World Championship!! Yes, this is a VERY big deal!!

                Longmont High School students (all former Wildcats) Alex Dickhans, Luke Hernandez, Abi Reichert, and Carl Richter of Team “Pronounce This” WON the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship Excellence Award in Dallas Texas on April 28th. 820 teams from approximately 25 countries competed for this coveted award. THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD IS THE TOP AWARD YOU CAN RECEIVE IN VEX ROBOTICS!! It is given to the best ALL-AROUND team in every aspect of the game; Qualification Rankings, Robot Skills, Autonomous Skills, Notebook Scores, and Interview Scores. Only ONE team gets the award… in the entire world. Congratulations to these four unbelievably talented, hard-working, outstanding students for this incredible accomplishment! WOW.                 On April 26th – Arbor Day – 25 St. Vrain students (including several from Westview) were invited by UCAR and NASA’s Globe program to plant a “moon tree” descendant at the Mesa Lab in the foothills of Boulder. Click here to learn more about the special day and about moon trees.
                CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR APRIL STUDENTS OF THE MONTH! YOU ROCK!!
                8th grade Orchestra has been working with composer Morgan Denney to commission and write a brand new piece for the Westview Orchestra! This collaboration has been taking place over the school year, and the world premiere of this piece will be at the concert on Monday, May 6th. Listen to the composer talk about the origin and inspiration for this work above!
                Jazz Band students performed three tunes at the Skyline Jazz Festival on Thursday, April 25th. After their performance, they had a customized clinic with Dr. John Gunther from the University of Colorado!
                8th graders Juliana Monreal, Kathy Ordaz, Haley Lopez-Moreno, and Gwen Vazquez stop for a pic after competing in the 4×100 relay at the District Track meet on Thursday, April 25th at Longmont High School.
                Students in Ms. Compton’s 6th grade science class are working together to develop food webs to understand interactions between producers and consumers in an ocean ecosystem.
                Students in Ms. Ellis’s and Ms. Rude’s Yearbook STEM class have worked extremely hard all year to create an amazing yearbook for our Wildcats. Josten’s noticed, and awarded them a Silver medal for their outstanding work! Congratulations on a job well donewe can’t wait to see it!
