Westview Middle School Weekly Update

8th grader Eliot Johnson and his sister 7th grader Olive Johnson traveled with their family to Dallas, TX on Monday, April 8th to view the total solar eclipse. Mom Kayla said it was an incredible experience, and kindly shared an ethereal photo she captured at the height of this fleeting celestial event.

    • CMAS Testing this year is April 9th – 19th. Please take a minute to read the following letter for additional information: Westview CMAS Testing 2024 
    • 6th and 7th Grade Elective Registration: This year’s 6th and 7th grade students have the opportunity to request classes for their electives for the 2024-2025 school year. On Monday, April 8th they received links for class descriptions and an informative slide deck with all the instructions to request classes. Please ask your student about this and feel free to help them choose classes they are interested in. Requests will be open until Monday, April 15th at 4:00 p.m.

        • Practices are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3:30 – 5:00 (except on game days)
      • St. Vrain’s Unframed Art Show live at the Boulder County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall from April 16th -21st
        • Please join us at the Boulder County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall from April 16-21 for the public viewing of artworks from all grade levels and schools across the St. Vrain Valley. Different mediums will be featured including ceramics, digital art/photography, drawing, jewelry making, metalwork, mixed media, painting, and printmaking.

          Did you know that the Westview campus is home to over 350 trees?  Thanks to the generous support of local landscape business Colorado Materials, Westview STEM students will give the trees a dose of healthy soil and complete a walkway designed to mitigate erosion.           7th grader Brayden Gibbs nails a high jump at the all-grades Track meet on Monday, April 8th at Longmont High School.
          Members of the Longmont High School Track team (all of them Westview alumni) worked with our Wildcat Tracksters on Tuesday afternoon at practice. THANK YOU!
          Students in Mr. Chavez’s and Ms. Root’s Earth Explorers STEM class film their final projects with CU Scientists during their third field trip on Thursday, April 4th. Final projects will be presented at a Film Festival on May 15th- details to come!
          6th graders in Language Arts evaluate each other’s essays in “Speed Dating” style; students provide short, quick feedback on one part of their essay and then switch partners and get feedback on another part. This activity is designed to be a fun way for students to revise essays using peer feedback, practice using writing rubrics, and better understand expectations so there are no surprises when they see a final grade on a final draft.
          6th grade scientists are creating posters that report their findings from an experiment investigating gas exchange in aquatic plants.
          Choir Director Ms. Neumann puts on her judge’s hat to select her top picks in the Westview 2024 Peep Diorama Contest. Our Wildcats came up with some truly amazing creations this year! Winners will be announced on Monday, April 15th.
          7th grade teachers check in with Officer Rimsky following a monthly fire drill on Tuesday, April 2nd. Mr. Kath was especially giddy about the beautiful weather!
