Westview Middle School Weekly Update

Red-winged blackbirds return to the Westview wetlands each year around this time announcing the arrival of Spring. The distinctive call of the male is intended to claim territory and chase away rivals and intruders.

              The National Association for Music Education has designated March as “Music In Our Schools Month.” The purpose of this observance is to raise awareness of the extreme importance and value of music education for children of all ages. At Westview, we celebrate our exceptional music programs and the extraordinary teachers who make them happen year-round. Throughout this month, we will be featuring student interviews focused on how Westview music has impacted their middle school experience. Please enjoy the third of these above!
              “The “Wildcat” Show Choir performed at the MS District Choir Share Festival at Frederick High School on Wednesday 3/13. They sounded amazing and represented Westview Middle School impeccably. We had a blast watching other choirs and enjoying special musical guest Mister Tim.               “Plains to the Park recently had the honor of sharing our story at the 4th Rocky Mountain National Park Biennial Research Conference. Students engaged with Park personnel, the scientific community, and the general public.  Our day also included a snow-filled hike in the Park to check cameras. We’re grateful for the opportunities provided by Westview STEM!”

              Congratulations to all the wrestlers who placed in the SVVSD Middle School District Wrestling tournaments last weekend: Nikolai Warner-Brown (4th), Zion Gomez (2nd), Gavin Crespo (2nd), Natalia Narod (3rd), Max Johnston (2nd), Mali Comstock (2nd), Walter Ray (3rd), Elliot Pressler (3rd), Ryder DeSantiago (4th), and Ryley Hays (3rd). ALL of our Wildcat wrestlers worked extremely hard this season, and we are very proud of you and all that you have accomplished this year!!
              Coach Swearingen runs a drill at soccer practice on Tuesday, March 12th. Thirty-nine Wildcats are participating in this year’s soccer program which is run through the City of Longmont.
              Westview’s Garden Club has started dozens of basil, tomato, and pepper plants from seed that will be ready for outdoor planting in mid to late May. All of their plants are growing quickly and are looking robust and healthy!
              8th grader Piper Benjaminson and 7th Grade Math teacher Ms. Benjaminson take “Twin Day” to the next level during Spirit Week on Tuesday, March 5th. NAILED IT!!
