For almost 40 years, The National Association for Music Education has designated March as “Music In Our Schools Month.” The purpose of this observance is to raise awareness of the extreme importance and value of music education for children of all ages. At Westview, we are celebrating our exceptional music programs and the extraordinary teachers who make them happen. Throughout this month, we will be featuring student interviews focused on how Westview music has impacted their middle school experience. Please enjoy the first of these above!
CONGRATULATIONS to our February Students of the Month! You are amazing!!
“The Scripps written spelling bee was an exciting and tight competition! We needed to find one school champion. First, we had three tie-breakers between 8th grader Isaac Landers (above) and 7th graders Kian Kozlowski and Greta Scott (below). Greta Scott and Isaac Landers moved on, and we needed three more tie-breakers before 8th Grader Isaac Landers won and became our school champion. Congratulations to all of the students who were in the school bee and special congratulations to our champion Isaac, second place Greta, and third place Kian.  All champions!” ~Ms. Cribby, 7th grade Language Arts teacher
Students in Mrs. Compton’s 6th grade science class debated the pros and cons of a plan to reintroduce wolves to Colorado. The initiative known as Proposition 114 was voted on and approved by Colorado voters in 2020. Students recreated a mock town hall meeting where they were able to address the advantages and disadvantages of this issue from the perspective of Colorado stakeholders. What a great way to hear our students’ ideas and voices!
7th grader Jed Ellis takes on his opponent on Monday, February 26th. “The wrestlers did great this week against Coal Ridge. Coal Ridge is a solid wrestling team, with many of their wrestlers having years of experience. We wrestled them tough and did not give up. We are looking forward to ending the year on a high note, we have one more meet against Altona, then the district championship.” ~Coach Dominic Martinez
8th graders in Mr. Chavez’s Spanish class are designing and creating original pinatas.
6th graders start “The Design Process” in STEM classes by brainstorming and sharing ideas.
As part of a community education program, nurses from Avista Hospital visited 7th graders in science classes on Monday, February 26th to teach them how to recognize and react to someone who is having a stroke.
Students in Westview’s Garden Club have been starting and thinning seeds in anticipation of this year’s garden. They have also been busy planting some indoor planters of greens that will be harvested for the Westview kitchen in farm-to-table style.

        Expect the best!
