6th Grade Band gets ready to take the stage for their first concert on Thursday, December 7th. “6th Graders started the year without instruments and began learning the basics of counting rhythms. Then, they transitioned to learning how to properly produce sound on just the mouthpiece. After that, we learned our first 3 notes. In late September, we added two more notes and started learning songs through our beginning band sequence. Now, they are playing songs with up to 7 different notes and have learned 8 different types of rhythm patterns. They also can play songs that are in parts rather than only in unison!” ~ Ms. Borja, Band Director
6th Grade Orchestra performs their first concert of the year on Thursday, December 7th as well. “From learning to play with good posture to learning Hot Cross Buns to playing as a full string orchestra, 6th grade Orchestra students have come such a long way! We hope you have heard their progress at home in the past few months as well.
Congratulations on a wonderful first concert!”

Intramural Girls Basketball players meet their teammates, receive their uniforms, and take their season photo on Tuesday, December 5th. Ninety-seven girls are participating in this year’s program. Have a great season Wildcats!
“Westview Girls Travel had their first game against visiting team Coal Ridge Middle School on Monday. The girls from both teams did well against Coal Ridge after only a week of practice. After two tough games, Westview was able to come away with a win and a loss against the lady Dynamites.” ~Coach Meka
Westview’s Pep Band plays the National Anthem before the Girls Travel game. How many other middle schools in the District have a Pep Band? Zero! Just sayin’…
Students in Mr. Turner’s art classes are using transparency transfers to better understand color blending and contour line drawing.
7th graders play “Soccer Ball Madness” during Challenge Day on Monday. The goal is for students to kick a soccer ball into one of three hoops. If the ball lands and stays in a hula hoop their team gets points. The team with the most points at the end of the round wins.
7th Grade Tenor/Baritone Class hard at work (or hardly working lol) sorting plants for this year’s highly successful music fundraiser. The money raised will go towards field trips, music, instruments, and special opportunities like the Honor Band, Honor Orchestra, and Honor Choir. Thank you very much to all who support Westview’s exceptional music programs! We appreciate you!

        Expect the best!
