8th grade Orchestra (above) and 8th grade Band (below) performed in their final middle school concert on Monday, May 6th. “The concert was outstanding! I have to say it was one of the best 8th grade concerts we have ever had,” said Mr. Spencer. A few highlights: Orchestra played “Closer to the Sky,” a piece commissioned especially for Westview by composer Morgan Denney. Band played “Westview Sketches,” another original piece commissioned just for Westview 13 years ago. The two groups also combined as a full Symphony Orchestra to play an enchanting rendition of the 4th movement of Brahms Symphony No. 1. Good stuff! Many of these talented Wildcats will pursue music in high school thanks to the solid musical foundation they received at Westview. Congratulations to our 8th grade musicians for all you have accomplished over the past three years!!
This year’s National Junior Honor Society passed the torch to next year’s 8th grade members with the traditional NJHS Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, May 7th. Students who accept the invitation to join this esteemed organization are expected to exhibit exemplary character, scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and community service. Congratulations to our new NJHS Wildcats!
8th graders Jake Ruffing and Mason Luedtke received certificates and gift bags for participating in the Historic Boulder Preservation Action Student Essay Contest. Historic Boulder fosters the spirit and promotes the benefits of preservation through education, advocacy, rehabilitation, and celebration. Jake and Mason were the only St. Vrain students in the contest and represented Longmont to the highest level. The event included tours of the historic Boulder County Courthouse, the Boulder Theatre, and the Hotel Boulderado.
7th grade students took a field trip to CU’s Fiske Planetarium this past week, where they learned more about the properties of energy, light, and lasers.  This photo shows students standing in front of a thermal imaging screen, showing their silhouettes in the infrared frequency range.
Westview Tracksters who placed at SVVSD District meets received their ribbons on Monday, May 6th. Congratulations to these Wildcats and all the athletes who participated in this year’s Track & Field season!
Westview Soccer celebrated the end of their season with a pizza party on May 8th. Over 40 Wildcats participated in the program this year!
Improvaloosa was a smashing success! Improv actors played the gamut of games and then invited audience members to join in.  We even had former and future Westview students participate in the fun! Groups created skits that varied from “dates gone wrong,” “coffee shop romance and tragedy”, “a real-life Matrix”, and an “alien abduction support group.” Nice work Wildcats!

    Expect the best!
