Westview STEM Explorers learn and provide service to our community

A group of students at Westview known as STEM Explorers have been working with Boulder County Parks and Open space for several years. They have been engaged in water quality studies, learning about the Emerald Ash Borer, and engaging in conservation efforts at several local open space properties. They have been conducting water quality studies at Heil Ranch for several years. In the fall they built fishing line receptacles, conducted water quality studies, and surveyed trash and human impact at Pella Crossing. Last month they learned about the Emerald Ash Borer and the impact on trees at Westview. On Tuesday, they worked at Lagerman Reservior building fishing line collection tubes. In addition they learned about species that make Lagerman their home. They had great close-up experiences with a bald eagle and an osprey. Westview Science teachers Jayme Sneider and Jason Helmus have spearheaded this collaboration with Boulder County.
