This week students at Westview Middle School planted a number of trees on our campus. These trees were planted to replace some of the ash trees at Westview that have been affected by the Emerald Ash Borer. This is the culmination of a project where our students partnered with Boulder County Parks and Open Space and the St. Vrain Grounds Department. These students learned about the Emerald Ash Borer and it’s impact in Colorado. They learned about a variety of tree species and why they would be best for our school. They worked with their teachers and grounds staff to map out the best locations for the trees and coordinated this collaborative effort. This project was coordinated by Westview teacher Jayme Sneider. What an amazing example of STEM learning enhanced through community partnerships.
