Boletín semanal de la Westview Middle

“This group of Plains to the Park students hiked a little over 4 miles through snow and windy conditions on Monday, February 19th.  They had quite an adventurous day and retrieved video footage of mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, deer, elk, moose, chickaree squirrels, and a hawk.  Experience and involvement are keys to outdoor learning in this program.” ~Mr. Cribby

“On Wednesday, February 21st, 145 middle school orchestra students and a dozen high school students gathered in the Westview Gym for the annual Stringathon concert, a performance of 10 pieces that become progressively more challenging. They were joined by special guest musician, Dr. Elliot Moore, Music Director and Conductor of the Longmont Symphony, who also spent the afternoon in a Meet and Greet with the students. Students gave a truly spectacular performance in a concert that is uniquely Westview.
Go Orchestra Wildcats!” ~Mr. Vue, Orchestra Director
(above and below) “I would like to congratulate all of our choral Wildcats who did such an excellent job at the concert last night (2/22)- They exhibited great professionalism and beautiful singing, and I’m very, very proud of them! Again, congratulations on an outstanding performance!”

6th graders are currently reading the book Hoot, a mystery novel by Carl Hiaasen. During reading, students make entries in their interactive notebooks. This activity helps students with organization and note-taking which is a key element of retaining information.
7th graders just finished reading the book I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban, an autobiographical memoir by Malala Yousafzai. Students are now applying what they learned in the book to research various topics in present-day Pakistan.
8th graders are reading the book Crossing the Wire, a historical novel by Will Hobbs. Throughout their reading, students are tasked with researching ideas presented in the book to see if they are based on actual facts that can be verified or if they are fiction.
