    Westview’s Jazz Band performs a gig at Planet Bluegrass on Monday, December 18th. “The students had already performed the same set the week before but were excited to play in a venue other than the school gym. It is a really positive experience for middle school students to get to play in a performance venue because it gives them the opportunity to feel like they are gigging professionally. It is a more accurate representation of what most professional jazz performances are like. It was also a great learning experience, as they got to hear more advanced jazz performances to learn from too.” ~ Ms. Borja
    A great time was had by all at the annual 8th grade boys vs. staff basketball game on Thursday, December 21st- a long-standing Westview tradition on the day before Winter Break.
    7th grade Algebra students create “stained glass windows” by graphing different linear equations. The activity presented an opportunity for students to explore the beauty found in the harmony, patterns, and structures of numbers and mathematics.
    Math enthusiasts stay after school on Tuesday, December 19th to try out for the MathCounts competition at Altona in February. MathCounts is a national math enrichment program and competition series “focused on engaging the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of middle school students in grades 6-8.”
    “This delightfully quirky hot air balloon that resembled an elephant was created by 7th graders Alejandra, Ivy, Malia, and May.  A last-minute redesign led to the creation of a new balloon style, one that flew surprisingly well. Great work, girls!” ~ Mr. Cribby
    6th grade science students attempt to get a pencil to float in the air to better understand the properties of magnetism. This group was one of only a handful who managed to accomplish the task!
    Student Council packs up donations from Westview’s annual canned food drive on Tuesday, December 19th. Over 1000 cans were collected and donated to the OUR Center. Thank you for helping Westview support the Longmont community!
