Once again, in the initial school spelling bee, 8th graders Graham Daniel and Aidan Hansell tied with perfect scores. They went on to a very difficult tie breaker. Graham Daniel won, with Aidan finishing in a close second missing one word more than Graham. A wonderful effort by all involved!
We will be hosting two informational parent meetings in the coming weeks. On each of the nights high school conselors and/or administrators from one of our feeder high schools will be joining us. All middle schools and high schools in the district have created similar transition plans.
Our annual Geography Bee was held on January 19. After many rounds of competition we were finally down to our two finalists. Eight grader Mia Novick and seventh grader Eric Testori squared of for the final round. When the dust settled, Eric Testori had won the contest. Eric will now take a test to see if he can qualify to participate in the state Geography Bee. Good luck Eric! Congratulations to Mia and all of our Geo Bee finals competitors.
On Thursday January 11, a group of science students from South Korea visited Westivew Middle School to learn about STEM education. They visited and collaborated with our students learning about STEM Block programs such as Plains to the Park, Robotics, STEM Explorers, Video Production, Science Olympiad and Environmental Art. In addition to their school visit, these students joined the students from the Plains to the Park Program in their studies in Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday.
On January 8, all Westview 8th graders had the opportunity to participate in a town hall meeting with Colorado General Assembly representatives Mike Foote and Jonathan Singer. The event started as a question from a group of our students to their teachers. These students worked with their teachers to contact the legislators and put together the meeting.
