Bolder BoulderAre you interested in running, jogging, or walking 6.2 miles? Join the Westview Bolder Boulder Team! You will get some training experiences, free t-shirt, discounted entry for the famous Bolder Boulder 10 km road race, and snacks on race day, which is Memorial Day (May 25th, 2015). Register by March 20th for a race entry of $25 or by April 18th for $30. Parents, siblings, and friends may also register through BB Racers- Westview and have their goodies delivered to the school.
The teachers at Westview Middle School are always looking for new hands-on approaches to science, technology, engineering and math. John Fischer, company founder of Longmont-based StickerGiant Inc. and parent to former Westview students, jumped at the chance to help. StickerGiant Inc. donated a 3D printer to Westview Middle School to enhance their computer science and robotics programs.
Westview had five of our six teams compete this past weekend and they did pretty well compared to our previous events. All five teams are now scoring on multiple objects and two of them are hanging with some of the High School teams (Andromeda and The Creators). Andromeda was the highest scoring team in the Programming Skills Challenge beating some of the HS teams in the process. Unfortunately, they did not have that as an award this time but they were given special recognition. They did win a unique award made up from one of the High School teams hosting.
Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a conference for girls in middle school. This day-long event will include hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). At the conference, girls will get a chance to meet STEM role models and learn more about careers in those fields. Our ultimate goal is to motivate girls to become innovative and creative thinkers ready to meet 21st Century challenges. This event takes place on February 28. Learn more and register here.
Jon Meilstrup, Trent Brossman, Tenma Ide and Ashlyn Kofford participated in the UNC Math Contest finals on Saturday, January 31st. These four Westview Mathletes were invited to the final round based on their performance in round one given at Westview in November. Top mathletes in grades 7-12 from across the state arrived on Greeley's campus January 31st to participate in a 3-hour challenge involving 10 questions.
